Our second dog is Benny (Benacio). He was a rescue from Mexico when I was volunteering in Juarez doing spay and neuter with Compassion Without Borders. He was about 5 months old and was full of worms, had almost no hair and had torn up his skin from constant scratching from sarcoptic mange. He had already survived distemper which had damaged his teeth and eyes, unbeknownst to us.
Once he was treated, he bloomed into a beautiful, sleek dog that could outrun all the other dogs at the dog park. Surprisingly for a Mexican desert dog, he loved to swim and fetch. His favorite times were camping and swimming in Baker Lake and at the dog park beach. Sadly, he passed away far too young at 7 years old from cancer.

Bhalu (Honey Bear) our black Pomeranian passed away at 16 years old. He was rescued from a hoarding situation through our local humane society as a 6-year-old. I neutered him, adopted him and sadly had to remove a bunch of his teeth at the same time. He was a great little dog, great with the kids, really frisky and fun. He loved to camp at Baker Lake—he didn't love the water, but he loved to play on the beach.
