Tom McCalla

Tom McCalla MA, PT, DMG (MI)

Tom has degrees in Physical Therapy, Cultural Anthropology, and Agricultural Economics, and is a trained watercolor artist. He was a U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer during the Vietnam Era, stationed in West Berlin Germany during the Cold War. His wide variety of education and experiences makes for a sort of Renaissance person. Tom’s work experience ranges from being a Military Intelligence Officer to being a Cultural Anthropologist working in the field for data collection, as well as archaeological survey work for the National Park System. Tom grew up on a farm in Tennessee and took care of the livestock; animals have always been an important part of his life.

When Tom and his wife Terri realized that their young son was autistic, Tom decided to get a degree in Physical Therapy in order to help their son and other people with disabilities. This process of personal growth has given him insight in dealing with many aspects of the medical field. Tom became the primary caregiver of their now adult son while Terri practiced veterinary ophthalmology. Tom also assisted Terri in her Veterinary Ophthalmology practice for nearly 20 years, and helped her in the development of a veterinary vision supplement (Ocu-GLO®), which is sold worldwide.

Tom has had several recent local showings of his watercolors, pastels and ink drawings. As a disabled Veteran, his artwork keeps him centered and creative in our troubled times.

Tom’s artistic perspective, compassion, and love of animals support Pet Health Harbour LLC in its creation of innovative ways to help pets live their best lives with their families.
